Summertime Treat

Babybirds3 The small maple in our front yard is not even as tall as the house yet.  You might hardly notice it except as it adds a splash of color in the fall.

Yesterday, however, LeAnn and the kids found a treat inside.  A mommy bird made a nest low enough for us all to get a good look at the contents without disturbing it.  With any movement of the branch at all, you can get three babies to open wide up.

Babybirds2 Just a normal looking tree with a surprise inside.  I wonder how many times in life we miss lots of the beauty in others by failing to take a little extra time and peek inside?

A treat indeed. I remember one time when I was a little girl, one of my brothers found a nest with baby birds. The mom never came back and we had to nurse them and then called a rescue center to come take them. That's the kind of education you get when the tv is off and your parents listen to you. Thanks for the reminder...I will start listening for little chirps from now on.

Jennifer, You'll get a kick out of this story. Remember we are all reading Where the Red Fern Grows this summer. Logan was the last to finish as we all finished earlier this week. Today, he started reading and got really into the book. LeAnn and the others headed to the pool with some friends. Logan stayed home (6 total hours of reading today) and finished the book!

that is precious! can't want to grow up so God will give me some babies to read with! ha!I think that is the greatest thing... keep it up man, I don't remember my dad ever doing something like that...
